Stamping Bella: Julie’s You Me And Us Stamp

Welcome to day three of stamping inspiration and giveaways!

Small wrinkle in my plans!  Read for the change:  For seven days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday — we're skipping Saturday & there's a special blog hop post on Friday for Art Journal Every Day) I will be giving away one of my brand new stamp sets from Canadian stamp manufacturer, Stamping Bella! All of the stamps are specifically aimed at art journaling.  Of course you can use them for lots of different things, but my intention in creating them was for you to use them when you art journal!  If you'd like to win today's featured stamp, leave a comment answering the question of the day (find it at the end of this post).  You must answer the question of the day if you want to win!  On Thursday, May 12,  I will post all seven winners!

And, of course, if you want to buy any of the featured stamps, you can find them all here.

Today's featured stamp set is "Julie's You Me And Us Stamp."

StampSet
I'm all about the mix and match!  So while you can do a lot of art journaling and travel journaling and scrapbooking with the following mix and matching…

3Sets
…you can also create some other fun combinations!

ThisIsLove (watch for that heart stamp coming at you tomorrow!)

ThisisME
With a little bit of masking, you can adapt the "you"….

Feeling patriotic?

Watch the video for a peek at another fun idea:

Supplies used:

  • Versamark Ink
  • Julie's You Me And Us Stamp Set from Stamping Bella
  • Koi Watercolors by Sakura
  • Ranger Heat It Craft Tool
  • Golden Fluid Acrylics
  • Archival Ink from Ranger
  • Clear Embossing Powder from Ranger
  • Pitt Pen by Faber-Castell
  • PanPastels and PanPastel tool
  • miscellaneous: paint brushes, water, scrap paper, scissors, eraser

One of the nice things about this stamp set is the kind of jumbly feel.  I really like that hand drawn lettering look and it fits right into my art journal pages!

Here's a peek at the journal page I did in the video:

And so many people mentioned on yesterday's post that their favorite stamp was a backround text stamp, so I wanted to show how you can use these stamps to create a text background too!

And here's what it looks like with a little something on it:

Background2
So what do you think?  Are you a fan of hand drawn lettering stamps?

If you'd like to win a set of the "You Me And Us" stamps, here's the question of the day:

What are your pet peeves about stamps?

Leave your answer in the comments section of this post!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • My biggest pet peeves with stamps are:
Hard to store the mounted chunky ones
Cumbersome to clean sometimes ’cause I obsess with the crevaces. lol
AND the wood ones are not always easy to “eyeball” the placement. LOVED the little video. Pinning this page. I love it!

  • Hi Julie, I don’t know about pet peeves, but I just LOVE the creative ways you find for using stamps. I mainly hoard stamps (although now I’ve limited them to one drawer), but seeing your original usage really makes me want to get out my supplies and stamp! 🙂

  • My pet peeves: I forget what I have… I store some in a drawer (the wooden ones) and some in a folder (the clear stamps) and I sometimes use what I see and come across a ‘better fitting on the page’ stamp later on… A bit like Helena commented…

  • Pet peeves? – funny name! 😀
_ forgetting to clean my stamps right after using them would be my biggest one i guess…Its just sooo much easier to clean them when the ink/paint are still wet, than hours later when its all dryed and takes a lot more work!
    – Only using my fave 3-4 faves and forgetting about the rest of my stamps!
Lovely text stamps! Can think of sooo many projects to make with them!

  • Uneven printing has to be the biggest problem with stamping. Some crafty people I know say they don’t do stamping because they ‘can’t’ (get the pressure right).

I would have more fun making layouts or cards with sentiments in hindi or even in english.I normally have to always print them off the computer but i know stamps would sure be fun 🙂

  • I TRULY loved this Fast Forward video and the resulting page. I am looking forward to trying the Versamark technique to create a background page in my journal, as well as a paper stencil like you did with the heart. Great ideas! My biggest pet peeve with stamps is how I always seem to get a line of ink from the rubber around the stamp. I also have trouble getting my placement right–so letters are even, that sort of thing. But I still love to use them in my journal!

  • I really enjoyed seeing your page come together and it reminded me that I have been wanting to create some resists with my clear embossing powder. The only pet peeve I can think of is when acrylic stamps are new they can make a poor stamp image so I clean and stamp and clean and stamp until I am satisfied with the stamped image. But the fact I can see through them makes up for this. I have few wood mounted stamps because of this. again very inspiring! tfs

I have a hard time getting a good clean image exactly where I want it with rubber mounted stamps so I usually use clear which limits choics.

What was the brownish powder you brushed on the edge of the heart? Perfect pearls?
My pet peeve is really myself! I have a ton of stamps and do not know how to think out of the box to make them more versatile. That said i am working on that in my art journal and this video was definitely inspiring! I love this set and wish I had purchased it as well!

My biggest pet peeve is that I usually don’t get the first stamped image evenly inked.
When I remember to stamp with the paper on top of a mouse pad it does come out better (I think that I got that idea from your blog many moons ago).

  • Sigh, my biggest pet peeve is not finding stamps that I truly like. Have no stamp stores near, therefore, always looking on line and not always liking ones that are massed produced. One way to resolve my issue? Found a Rubber Stamp business in a city 50 miles away that will make the stamps I like, if he can. He normally caters to businesses and business stamps, but has been super helpful to me and has, so far, made all I have requested, with the exception of reproducing a photo of me and my sisters in a stamp, lol. We’ve just not been able to get one of four women done (to come out clear enough)…..

  • One of my pet peeves about stamps is when they are not made deep enough or not trimmed correctly. Then I almost always get a little ‘extra’ line somewhere that I don’t want from the edge of the stamp! grrr! If I remember to test first and wipe away any extra ink then it works okay, but I like it better when it does not happen at all!

Then I almost always get a little ‘extra’ line somewhere that I don’t want from the edge of the stamp! grrr! If I remember to test first and wipe away any extra ink then it works okay, but I like it better when it does not happen at all!

  • Most troublesome is storage and inconsistent results. Early on I bought cheap stamps and almost gave up because the results were unacceptable but now with better stamps I get better results although my budget allows for much fewer puchases so I look for stamps with the most versatility.

  • Another terrific video – love the journal page! My biggest pet peeve with stamps is getting the entire image…I ink the entire stamp and either end up with black smudges where I don’t want them or I don’t get the entire image the first time. This seems to happen whether they’re wood block or unmounted stamps. Maybe because I have arthritis in my hands and don’t apply enough pressure?

  • Echoing the cleaning and storage peeves. I have many wood-mounted stamps that are in sets, but I like to use one from here, one from there, and it is a pain to pull out all the different sets. And yet, I am afraid to mix them all up and make sets that make sense to me! I need to just DO that!

I just try to keep all of the like ones organized and keep them all in a zip loc bags in a hanging file folder with the slots labled as to what they are. • My biggest pet peeve about stamps is that I usually *love* a few stamps in a set, but not the others and feel it’s expensive to buy a whole set if I don’t love them all. On the other hand, I think that is making me more judicious in what I do buy. . . so there will be fewer sets that gather dust and don’t get used.

  • My pet peeves about stamps:
    1. Lining up individual letters – I like things messy but sometimes it gets ridiculous.
    2. How on earth do you ink large negative spaces (flat, high, smooth parts) evenly??? I’ve tried EVERYTHING!
    3. Acrylic stamps squish under my awesome power. I think “light, even pressure” isn’t one of my gifts.
    4. There seems to be stamped images meant to be colored meticulously for hours and stamps meant to be inked, stamped and you’re done. What of you’re a me-ish sort and want to stamp and color for a few minutes?
Love your new stamp line, Julie. It’s beyond awesome!

Not that It drives me crazy when my creative time is interrupted! Sometimes it is the phone ringing or the dog needing to go outside and those I shrug off but the moments that drive me the craziest is when my family stops by for a little talk! I love them all and for the most part they leave me to it but it never fails that when I am in the flow my wonderful husband takes that moment to want to talk about his day, because I love him to distraction I stop and listen and would never trade those moments even for more creative time but oh how I wish there were more hours in the day!

    Pet peeve(s) about stamps:
I can’t resist them, so I have more than I can keep track of and use. Bad habit!
Some brands of acrylic stamps, if not peeled away from their backing right away, stick over time to the point that they tear when I get around to trying to use them.
Some brands of cling stamps don’t really cling well to acrylic blocks.

Some brands of cling stamps don’t really cling well to acrylic blocks.

  • I’ve purchased a lot of the less expensive clear stamps at places like Michael’s and eventually they turn yellow and don’t stick to the plexiglass anymore…that drives me nuts! The more expensive are fine so I’ve learned “I get what I pay for”. But I honestly think most stamps are a bit on the expensive side so don’t buy all the ones I like.

  • My pet peeve is the cost and maybe I don’t know if this is wrong or not, to get a good image depends on the quality of the stamp. When I get small to medium size clear stamps, I group them together and put them in a CD or DVD case & usually have the clear stamps in one drawer and the wood-mount stamps in another drawer.
Luv reading everyone’s responses and Thanks Julie for the fun questions, luv your stamps

Watching Julie’s video stretches and sets off my thinking about ways I can use them. I would not have even considered buying the scalloped set–I shy away from things that first impress me as “cute”–until I watched Julie’s art journal page video. Now I feel like I can’t live without the scalloped set!

Things that annoy me most about stamps are border stamps that are flimsy & really difficult to align them straight. Also, stamps that have an uneven surface so don’t print properly unless you havve some soft padding under the card 🙁

  • My biggest peeve is how to store stamps – to keep them accessible, tidy, but not ‘on display’.
