Are you a fan of Scrapbook Memories TV?
It's a scrapbooking show on PBS and it has been around for (I think) 15 years and is seen in over 70 million households! Pretty amazing, right? I've been lucky enough to be a guest for the past few seasons and just this last season I started hosting the "Artist to Artist" segment. Julie and Beth are the two hosts and they have always made me feel so welcome and at ease on set.
Well, Scrapbook Memories TV has taped its last season.
But wait, before you get too sad, let me tell you the awesome-tastic good news: It's being replaced by a *new* show Scrapbook Soup!
It's a new scrapbooking and mixed media art show for a new era of creative memory crafts! The fresh ingredients in this soup are innovative ideas, fabulous designers, and exciting materials. Projects will include scrapbook pages, cards, paper projects – both traditional and those with a dash of paint and a mixed media flair!
We're taping the new season in April. I'm looking forward to it! Especially since I'm going to be a featured co-host!
Now isn't that some exciting news?
And now here's the part where I ask for a favor. I want to know what you want to see. I want this show to be absolutely riveting and just amazing and so I want to hear from you, what would make it "must watch" for you? You can leave a comment or send me an e-mail, but let me know:
- What kind of projects do you want to see? Do you need to see the project from start-to-finish or just a technique?
- What kinds of products do you want to see demo-ed?
- If you've seen Scrapbook Memories TV, what do you like most about it? Least?
- And anything else you're thinking about, of course!
Thanks for stopping by!
Julie,
CONGRATS on the co-hosting!
I would LOVE to see more projects using older paper, embellishments (that we have been collecting for years – hoarding) and/or recycled projects.
Being on a limited budget, I like using what I have & always LOVE new ideas for something recycled.

Would love to see projects that use what you have on hand-from start to finish. Love using found objects for functional purposes. Never saw the old show but not for trying, just wasn’t shown around here. Co-host? Congratulations! It will surely be interesting.

Julie, This is right up my alley. I have been home sick since October and my husband records a bunch of shows for me to watch when I can’t sleep at night. This is one of them. I was thrilled to see you on it as you brought some really fresh perspective. I think the show as it is has been too basic and crazy repetitive. I think with the popularity of Ustream and longer videos on youtube a more indepth look at a project from start to finish would be a big hit. For example, the current show repeats the same die cut machine over and over and as a frequent watcher I find myself fast forwarding. Don’t have it, not getting it and don’t care about the 12 steps necessary to use it. It comes across as an advertisement. Maybe one project with multiple techniques. It would be great to play along so maybe a list of supplies used including the actual manufactures names. Art journaling, painting, tim holtz, steampunk, flower making, copics. Higlighting amature artist who are fabulous and trendsetting. I could go on and on. I will stop now and leave room for someone else. LOL. I am thrilled for you. Penny

I’ll miss it. I dvr it every day, and still watch even if it’s a repeat. Some techniques may not have interested me the first time around, since my moods change on a regular basis it may catch my eye on a repeat.
I loved, loved, really loved the canvas you did with the photo transfer and gel medium. I think it was a picture of your mom. I took notes at the time, and just bought gel medium this week. I’ll be experimenting.
I’ll miss SM but am excited for something new. Especially if you are involved!!
Details appreciated as they become available!! 🙂
Congrats!

wow, how exciting! i can’t wait to watch it!
i would love to know more about photo transfers or other way to get photographs into layouts (beyond the traditional way).
another thing would be cool would be a website for the show with details and links from the day’s project. like a list of supplies and where you can get them?
let me know when it is on!!

A huge congrats to you! Yah!
Things I want to see … hmmm…. I like seeing how people actually do things. Hands on type. I would love to see a segment on how to incorporate wax into your journals (I love encaustic work!). Getting over the blank page syndrome … and beyond…. lol.
Whatever you come up with will be fantabulous! I am so proud of you!

Wow…congrats on the co-hosting gig Julie!
I guess that I would like to see you create a LO from start to finish that has different techniques on it. I love when you share your process on your blog in pics and I think it would be great in real time. (You have my permission to actually design it at home and then re-play for the TV to conserve time.) LOL
I would like to see how folks use bees wax; dry and wet embossing; art journaling and more.

Big congrats on the cohost job 🙂
I wonder is there any way to watch this show online outside of the US?

Hello Julie,
Very exciting news! congratulations!! I’m sure you will bring your playful, colorful and experimental approach to scrapbooking! (which is what I love about your style).
I also would love to see layouts created from start to finish, how to plan a minibook and finish it! and most of all, I loved what you did in technique-a-palooza where you teach so many techniques and at the end you have so many handmade embellishments. I would like to see more things we can do with what we have at home to decorate our creations.
Thanks for asking for our input, can’t wait to see you on tv!!

ART JOURNALING- over the holidays, I started inserting all the photos I was taking inside my art journal layouts. It’s a new kind of hybrid scrapbooking, I think.
I am so excited for you- your segments (especially on Zentangling) were VERY inspirational for me. Now I just have to pester my local PBS station to get the show!

Oh my peas Julie! Talk about an emotional roller coaster, first I was all sad that Scrapbook Memories is no more but then all sure happy for this new show! And you as a co-host, even more fabulous!!
I’d love to see the process of creating a mini album – do you start with photos for inspiration or add them as they fit into the pages? I’d also like to see ways embellishments can be used other than their original intended purpose 😉
Congrats on the new show!
Hugs,
Kristina

Lets get away from a new products and start using recycled items and craft staples. Lets see some young bright folks who are not calling a technique or process by a new name and less of the layers painting over with Gesso to give depth, those passive faces and stylized birds.9 also no pointee hats and wings) There are hundreds graduating every year with art degrees. Surly there are some new things. Let the manufacturers watch your show for ideas not the other way round and Julie, keep the bright colors and fun perspective!

Oh, Julie. I’m both sad and glad! I really liked watching your segments – even though it’s not my style, I still took ideas from it. I like watching the how-tos. I don’t care about the machines either

This is so exciting!!! I used to TiVo that show all the time! In the new show I’d love to see technique driven ideas around things like painting techniques, image transfers, that cool stuff you do with glue to add texture, etc. Will you be a host? How cool that you are involved!!

Very cool announcement. Grats!
I’d like to see a mix of techniques and start to finish projects.
Maybe feature pages that can be done quickly and some that can be done cheaply.
Old supplies used in new ways.
Demo some of the higher priced tools so that people can decide whether they’d like to buy them.

I would also like to see segments using found/recycled objects. I save tags, packaging, ribbons, etc. that most would consider trash and like to incorporate them into more traditional layouts. Am I supposed to spray them with “Make It Acid Free”? I don’t. And I would love prompts or guidance to make pages out of the seemingly mundane aspects of everyday life. I love your LO’s for that. “The Itchy Scarf”, “Garland Girl”, I love the things you choose to document. Can’t wait for the new show!!! 🙂

Fantastic! Well, I watch craft shows when they are available…and recently I found out that Scrapbook memories is now on at 7:30am…school transportation time…so, if I am lucky I’ll try to find the new show at a time I can watch. I would prefer something totally different. I felt that it had become more of a ‘commercial’ than a ‘how-to’ show. I would prefer details and actual ‘how-to’. Otherwise, I just end up turning it off. I especially like the ideas that are more complex. The simple ideas can be found on the internet. Hope that helps!

Yay! I would love to see using more recycled stuffs that comes from a garage or trash. I would also like to see how to make books than buying albums. I disliked a hostess taking over a demo — let an artist do the demo. Way to go, Julie!

I loved that show, but haven’t seen it since moving to VA – can they make it available to more areas??? 🙂
I would love to see projects shown from start to finish – especially painting/mixed media type and demos of how to use new products.

Congratulations! LOVED your segments on SM! I really enjoyed Julie – so I hope she is on the new one, too. Would like to see more art journaling, Die Cuts for Cricut instead of just Sizzix, coloring with colored pencils and blending guides, binding with Bind-It-All, Tim Holtz anything/everything, inking, scrapbook pages, card making and home decor projects! Going to put new show in my DVR right now!

Congratulations, I love Scrapbook memories even though some of the rerun shows have techniques that are outdated, I will miss watching it.
I think the more you can do on non traditional scrapping, you know, not pages, but plaques, canvas art, etc would be awesome. Also, art journaling, or just small everyday creative ideas would be great. Cute crafts you could do to hang in an office or cubicle, things like that.

Sorry to see Scrapbook Memories go, but I’m excited about the new show. Anything with you is going to be great! Many thoughtful suggestions are already posted here — fresh uses for what we’ve hoarded, art journaling, new techniques. Please, not too much on digital scrapbooking. I work enough with the computer. Working with paper, pen and paints puts me in a new dimension.
Best of luck to you!

I still tivo that show and I’m sorry to see it go, but excited for you and for all of us that there will be something new on!
I’ve had enough of mini albums – techinques are great and they are plenty, especially if a few finished ideas are shown pre/post technique. I am with all the others who ask for using what we have, especially non-scrapping (household) stuff.

I discovered you via Scrapbook memories, and have followed them for a long time, even though there seems to be quite a bit of repetition. I enjoy your “artsy” approache rather than the “crafty” (more free style vs. patterns) but appreciate both. And I like your reminder that imperfections simply demonstrate one’s style. I would like to see projects from start to finish as I work very much from a visual example perspective. And I would like demonstrations of products like Gesso, gamsol, etc. as I can’t really remember when/how to use what. As both a card maker and a scrapbooker, ideas for each would be appreciated. And maybe a demonstration of new products with notes for how to obtain.
Congratulations on the new endeavor. I’m assuming you will notify us on your blog when you’re up and going.

I am so very happy for you, Julie! The first time I saw you on SM I was ecstatic. You brought fresh techniques and ideas that I love. I am sad to see SM go, but they will probably be playing reruns around here for the next several years. I do hope I shall not have to wait forever to see your new show. One would think the Chicago area could get it in a timely fashion. I agree with suggestions others have made, but if I think of something original, I shall email you. Best of luck, Julie. You are one amazing artist.

I too am sad and happy! Congrats to you! I am so excited to see what you will do. SM is how I “discovered” you as well – you were doing the doodling tidbits initially. Loved the season where you began including more mixed media spots and did the artist interviews at CHA (I think that’s where).
What I love most about your work is you share how to use products in innovative ways and encourage people to do the techniques in their own style.
For me personally, I enjoy the artistic aspects more than the “crafty” parts. Memory keeping has changed so much and is no longer confined to scrapbooks. Sharing ideas of how memories can be incorporated in other areas of our homes is always nice. My scrapping has spilled over and I am once again fully creating art on daily basis. Sometimes on canvas, in journals, in my scrapbooks…wherever!

Thanks for the opportunity to allow us to comment on Scrapbook Memories TV. What I dislike most about the show are the re-runs. Gosh! Can’t they tape more shows? Also the setting looks retro from the 70s. Can they make the setting more modern looking?
I don’t want to see a project from start to finish. Instead, show us a technique and lots of inspirational samples where the technique is evident.
Thanks so much! You’re the best, Julie!

What I would love is more ‘how to’s ‘ showing how to use the new paper crafting tools that are on the market. One comes to mind right away. How do you use the new stitching tool by We Are Memory Keepers??? I would love demos of new tools on the show. BTW – Loved ya on Scrapbooking Memories!

I watched the show faithfully for a while, until it was just re-runs. Honestly, my favorite segments were the ones with you. Some of the products seemed very old or so specific that they wouldn’t be used a lot. I like to see a product used and then be shown many ways to adapt it to different projects. Versatility – that’s what I love. Thanks!

Congrats, Julie!! I am SO super excited to watch you co-host…I just love your personality and your attitude about art…not so stuffy!! Hmmm…I have watched the other show…..and I always felt like I couldn’t get enough info! I don’t mean within the epidsodes, I mean I wanted more or longer ones! I wasn’t crazy about the digital scrapbooking (the price of ink to print that stuff just isn’t worth it to me).
I love the stuff you do for Prima live….that would be cool. Showing how some of the tools can be used (such as crop-a-dile, etc) would be useful. I want one, but I have no idea what they do! (lol!)
Now, the only other thing that would make it perfect would be to have you co-host a quilting show right after the scrapbooking show!! Can’t wait for April!

I know I’m a little late chiming in here but I always love your good solid design tips, Julie. Love, love, love all of your doodling too. And to add to the list of things I’d like to see more of…Mini albums!!! And maybe some photoshop basics but honestly I felt like SBM almost did TOO much digital stuff…JMHO 🙂 I’m thrilled to hear you’re co-hosting!

So very excited that his is coming! I’d like to learn some great stamping techniques, and putting together patterns(paper) for layouts.

I’d like to see start-to-finish projects, specifically projects that don’t seem as if the presenter is being rushed along. I’d like to see more scrapbook pages that focus on the photos and less digital projects. I sometimes feel as if there is computer overload.
As for products, I’d like to see a return to stamping techniques with different types of ink and background techniques. Some of the newer products would be great too (e.g. Gelatos, Punch Around the Page sets, border punches).
What I liked most about SM were the segments that showed actual scrapbook pages being made and new technique ideas. What I liked least was whenever one of the hosts actually grabbed things out of the guests’ hands, and when they said things like, “What’s next?” or “Let’s move along and finish this page.”
Please, less distressing and vintage and more bright, fun designs.
Looking forward to the new show!

When is the new Scrapbook Soup going to air on TV, and what channel is it going to be on? I have been taping Scrapbook Memories for years so I want to continue with this new show. It sounds pretty interesting.

It should air at the end of this month. Once it does, the new website will go up with listings for times and channels! I hope that helps!

Projects start to finish. It’s great to see the projects but Scrapbook Memories jumped from one thing to another and you really never got to see techniques. Also card making as well as scrapbooking as I’m just venturing into the paper crafts area. All of what Lisa M said !!!!

I caught the last moments of the new show…I googled and found your web site or blog….You are my favorite part of the old show and love the artsy techniques. You inspire me to then create my own art…I am so so excited to see all the episodes. Keep up the wonderful art you do!

I am so happy that the new show is being created. I cannot wait.
I loved Scrapbook Memories even when it was basic. I loved going from start to finish on a project. Some of the computer imaging stuff (where they make a weird pattern out of a flower) was not interesting to me. I have been scrapbooking for 15 years and the show really helped me. Luckily I live in a region that has a couple of great stores and tons of artists for inspiration and classes but what I really need, personally, is motivation and tips on organizing our time and stash. Perhaps some artists can come on and tell us how they plan their own days. I don’t get bored when artists tell me their real stories. It makes them more relateable to me. I really like programs where they teach us by going through steps one by one.
