I did this painting in my art journal last week:
Man, does she look evil and mean or what?
But I decided to let it go. After all an art journal is not about pefection.
Um.
But I just couldn't let it go.
A few days later I decided to give her some plastic surgery — an eye lift. I gessoed out her existing mean eyes and put in some new ones!
Much friendlier, don't you think?
And here's the finished page:
She still has some issues (and a wonky small eye), but at least she's not glaring at me anymore! Whew!
Thanks for stopping by!

P.S. Amazing little sketchbook from Roben-Marie. All the pages completed in under 5 minutes!
I love it! Oh, my goodnes – that does make a huge difference. I love that there are no mistakes in art journaling… =)

I’m sorry, but I have to say that I liked the evil lady more… much more expression in the face. But as you say – an art journal is one growing thing and if you’re happy, I’m happy.

I must admit I also liked the evil lady more! Indeed more expression. But I love that you showed us that it is ‘just a new layer of some gesso and a facelift’ to create a much friendlier look! It makes me want to try and paint a portrait too because I can cover mistakes like that and try again. Thanks!

I love that you think to photograph everything Julie. When you share the progression, it’s fascinating, encouraging and inspiring. Not to mention just plain fun to look at!!

Not sure what to think of the change. I did notice the “evil” look that she was giving me, but thought that she probably had an emotion to let out. LOL
Thanks for showing the process of her change.

Very cool how you changed her expression so dramatically by simply changing her eyes.

Love the change! It is amazing how one little (or two as it might be) thing can change the whole emotion.

I love your chosen colors and happy you gave her a face lift. The first face made me very uncomfortable.
