Spent some time scribbling in my art journal.
It feels good to just doodle and color and add water and color and doodle some more. No agenda. No rules. Just playing around and enjoying the act of creating.
I've slowly been cutting back on my design team work, teaching, and other artistic obligations over the past few months. Not because I don't enjoy them, because I do. But because I found I wasn't experimenting and playing anymore — just doing work.
I'm currently on a mission to explore.
I'm loving having the little bit of extra space in my life just for me. It has also meant that I've been able to take up some fantastic guest designer opportunities (I think October had me in 3 guest design spots!) and pursue a few long term art goals that I've been putting off and putting off.
How about you? Are you able to make the time for some art exploration?

I’ve never been in more then one DT at a time – because of what you describe. For an artist it is necessary to keep “space” to create and explore and add “extra’s” that come your way (like guest spots, yes. Those are extra fun if you have time!) I LOVE how you use your time to explore and scribble!! Glorious, bright, fun page! WOW

Lovely fun colors. I’m having a horrible time balancing school (which is for art haha) and my fun art/blog stuff. I am doing only my school stuff pretty much at the moment. AND obsessing about it. Even my working out which I obsess about usually is getting the backseat. So.. Hopefully once this semester is over I can kinda get some more time to do some fun play stuff in. Thats great you are doing more guest spots. I love when you do those the most!

I love this post for it’s simply wonderful-ness Julie! I make time to create but wish I made even more for it. I need to clean up my creative space so the I can work on my fun art whenever I want to. Thanks for being a part of every morning that keeps me smiling.

I too can relate with needing to pull back from the DT responsibilities. I couldn’t believe how ‘Free’ I felt at the end of Aug. when my last DT term was up! It’s been so much fun just to scrap what I want, when I want with no deadlines & no rules!

That said, I still don’t make enough time to just go crazy and create.

You are such great inspiration for me! I have become way more daring with paint and being less ‘perfect’ on my scrapbook pages. I even started my first art journal…it’s coming along very slowly, but awesome! Keep creating! I love everything you do!

I really need to use my time wisely. I actually am at a pretty good time of my life for me time. The problem is I a so tired when I come home I just sit and read blogs or watch TV. I know creating makes me feel better, but I can’t seem to push myself to do it everyday.
