Meet Kim and Asher.

MeasuringAsher
Kim owns PortraitBug, the scrapbook store here in Manhattan, which is how we met and became friends.  She wanted to make a fabulous Halloween costume for her daughter, Asher, and so she enlisted my assistance.  Kim sent me the instructions for a sandwich costume, which she found here.  We made a few tweaks (like no ham — Kim and her daughter are vegetarians) and had a very fun afternoon!

As you can see from the photo above, we measured Asher to make sure the costume would fit and then she headed home.  Kim and I got to work.

We created the bread from upholstery foam.

Pretty cool looking, right?!

We added some cheese…

…a few sprouts and some pipe cleanered lettuce…

…but something was still missing!

Kim asked me to paint a tomato.

After the tomato was inserted, we decided it was pretty much done.

The inside is pretty Frankensteined (a mixture of fabri-tac and duct tape)…

…but still very very cool.

Since Asher had gone home, it was up to Kim to try on the costume.

Seriously cute, right?  I love the little sprouts and Kim was right, the tomato really is fun!

It was a lovely crafty adventure.  I love the fact that it doesn't matter what the weather is, the child wearing it can wear a coat or a t-shirt without affecting the look of the costume!  And seeing Kim in it, it's a pretty fun adult costume too….

Thanks for stopping by!

P.S.  I have a brand new show opening on November 10 for a very short run of just two weeks!  Rehearsals are going well and it's a very lovely cast.  Love to see you at the theatre if you're in NYC!

MalfiPostcard-front
Tickets are only $18 and it's going to be a lot of fun!  (Isn't that photo amazing?  PortraitBug is a scrapbooking store based around a photo studio and Kim was nice enought to take all the publicity photos for the show!)
