I am totally tickled, thrilled, and delighted to be Hambly's guest designer this month!  I made a whole bunch of stuff and I'm going to share it in three parts.  First up, some adorable treat bags!

As you can see, each bag is lined with colorful paper and full of candy!  Check them out in detail:

There are a ton of butterflies on this bag, courtesy of the Martha Stewart triple butterflly punch.  I tried to create a lot of dimension by using foam adhesive to pop some of them up.

I cut the sentiment with an exacto knife, outlined it with paint, and then added a transparency to hold the candy in the bag.

The top of the bag has a pretty paper lace detail, cut from a sheet of patterned paper.

I like the combination of the shine of the gold ink on the lace and the matte kraft paper of the bag.

EatMeLeafBag-sm
I like painting on this silkscreened paper because the design pops through the paint.

You may be thinking that my "eat me" sentiment is a reference to Alice in Wonderland.  I have to admit that it is not.  I was watching the movie Adams Family Values this week and there's a scene in it where the kids are putting on a Thanksgiving play at camp and one of the kids is dressed as a turkey and keeps singing, "Eat me!"  It makes me giggle every time.  (YouTube video here.)

The large leaf on the front of the bag is popped up with foam adhesive.

My sister-in-law suggested that this treat bag would be perfect for a wedding shower.  I have to agree.

You can see that the bag is lined with dress form paper (orange/pink) and the dress form window is made from a transparency of old fashioned candy jars.

This circle and diamond pattern is quickly becoming one of my favorite patterns to use on everything!

The flower is several different punches all layered with foam adhesive.  I used gesso to tone down the bright, bright colors.

Thanks for checking out my treat bags!  And I'll be back tomorrow with more Hambly goodness!

  • Love these!! Do you start with paper that you fold into a bag or start with a bag that you decorate?

  • I started with paper that I folded into a bag.  I think its easier to cut and insert the window when its flat!
