Crafter’s Workshop NEW Stencils!

Would you like a little peek of some of the stencils that the Crafter's Workshop will be showing at CHA in just a few days?

That was definitely a rhetorical question!  Because I can't wait to share!

First up is a very clean and simple layout (especially for me)!

AllAflutter-sm
I used The Crafter's Workshop butterfly stencil (in two sizes) to create the butterflies on this layout.

AllAflutterDetail2-sm
Each butterfly is two layers.  I sprayed the butterfly onto a piece of patterned paper and then onto a transparency.  I cut them both out and adhered them together along the body.  Then I added the rhinestone bodies.  It took a while, but the effect is just so lovely!

I also wanted to point out my mistake…ahem…creative opportunity.  The good news is that when I shoved this layout at my husband and said, "find the mistake," he couldn't.

AllAflutterDetail1-sm
But there it is.  Do you see it?

The only people who really see our mistakes are us.  It's a good thing to remember.  That's why they're called "creative opportunities."  An opportunity to be brilliant!

Next up is a tribute to NYC!

CityLife-sm
I sprayed and painted a sheet of cardstock, using three or four different stencils and just layering them to create awesome texture and shapes. Then I cut up the cardstock to create the colorful rectangles you see on the layout.
CityLifeDetail2-sm
Each of the rectangles has a building (or two) stitched onto it!

And see those lines in the piece on the right?  Well, the base of all this layering is the gesso scratching technique shown in the preview of my DVD!  I use that technique all the time!

This last layout is my fave!  (Although, I have to tell you, I posted all three of these layouts at 2Peas and Studio Calico and this one didn't get a single comment!  The other two layouts got some love, but I guess nobody but me likes this one.  Ah, well!  The good news is that I'm the only one who has to look at it and I love it!)

Goofball-sm
I applied the gesso with a palette knife to get those nice edges.

GoofballDetail2-sm
To create the background paper I started with a sheet of kraft colored cardstock.  Then I airbrushed, using three colors, and moving my new favorite stencil all around until I covered the entire sheet of paper.

GoofballDetail1-sm
I used a collection of red embellishments to frame the photo strip.

GoofballDetail3-sm
The two "o"s in the title were originally a "p" and a "q."  I simply removed the tails and had the "o"s that I needed!  The journaling was typed on my cursive typewriter.  (Love that thing!)

I'm going to be off to CHA on Monday, but I'll be sure to post lots of pics and updates!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • Go figure – I love Goofball – the gesso makes it feel like the the picture is bursting out of a tear in the paper.

  • I don’t think I could pick a fave of these three — they’re all fabulous Julie!
You’ve inspired me to dust off my sewing machine. Your stitching is always fabulous!
Enjoy CHA and know that we’re waiting to see it through your eyes!

  • I think they are all fabulous layouts. I really love those butterflies. On your goofball layout my first impression was “how cool, it looks like it’s milky stained glass and it looks like you are holding it up to the light or a window and the gessoed area looks like it is a transparent piece of paper or vellum” (I know I have a skewed way of seeing things)
I’ve been telling all the Prima girls, have fun at CHA and take lots of incriminating photos (especially of Cari and Sharon LOL)

  • I find the same thing, the layouts I love the most get the least amount of loving.
like you said it doesn’t matter if no one else loves it. If it makes us happy that is the main thing 🙂
