Mixed Media Quilt at The City Quilter: Part Two!

On Sunday a group of brave ladies spent their afternoon with me watching paint dry.

Seriously.

75% of this class was about sitting there with a Ranger Heat It Craft Tool in one hand and a paintbrush in the other!  You can see the heat guns in action below:

All the students brought in their quilted bases from the first class…

Quilted
Quilted-Ketsia
…and we got ready to start painting the face that would get appliqued on top of those lovely backgrounds!

We worked in layers.

Afro
Sandy
Not everyone made a face.

And at least one student already was a portrait expert!

Verna
I loved watching the faces develop and encouraging the students to get past all their fears about it not being "good" or "right" and just enjoy the act of creating and trust that the end result would be lovely!  Check out a few of the different faces they made:

So fun and artistic, right?  And I had a good time demoing the technique!

Mine
I might have to go back and add in a little bit of orange as she's looking very green, but then again, done is better than perfect!

If you missed the class this time around I'll be teaching it again in the Fall!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • Hi Julie,
    The work all looks terrific.
I’m so bummed out that I was sick and missed the class. I hope to be able to make it up in some way. Please let me know if there is a way that I can.
