There's an "Artists Faire" at CREATE and so I've been thinking about selling some stuff. I don't usually sell my artwork. A few commissions here and there (which I always enjoy), but that's it. But for the last few days I've been working on some small (4×6) artwork. I mounted them on black cardstock (5×7).
I'm still a little on the fence about whether I should start selling stuff. I feel a little intimidated by the whole sales process. I don't really know anything about sales tax or packaging (do you wrap the art pieces up or just leave them as is?) or any of the other sundry concerns. Any advice from those of you who sell your artwork? Lessons learned? Things I should know? I'd appreciate any help you can offer!
As always, thanks for stopping by!

They are amazing Julie. Why don’t you give it a try ? “Create” can be an opportunity to figure out if you want or do not want to sell your art. In any case, they are truly beautiful 🙂

Not sure about the details of selling since I don’t, but I sure do know about buying. Sell please Julie!
Love them all but especially “state of mind”.

You do lovely work. If I were you, I would give it a whirl. You can always stop, if you don’t enjoy it.

these are soo gorgeous. of COURSE you should sell! here’s a piece of advice for you. organize paperwork- print shipping labels, thank you cards, and business cards. this way on shipping day, you can set up an assembly line and pack everything. you just gave me a great idea for a post. 🙂
i’ll write more about selling/shipping and post it on my blog.

You should absolutely give it a try! What do you have to lose? Are you talking about a booth at an art festival? Etsy? Studio? I have sold my greeting cards in stores across US and have a successful Etsy site. I’m thinking your best bet would be local art galleries. Where do you live? 🙂 Kathy

These are fantastic. I say go for it. You’ve got nothing to lose. The hard part of creating the work is already done! I’ve sold at craft shows, and hope to open an etsy before the end of the year. I think wrapping them in something, even if it’s just tissue paper with a sticker seal is a nice touch. You can use round sticky labels and print (or hand paint/draw) a little art with your name and blog on it. Or wrap them in some fabric scraps tied with some fibers or jute. Just throwing ideas out there. You could even use 5×7 envies for these. Design a cool something and print it right on the envie with your info. OK, I’ll stop now. Let us know what you come up with! Good luck! And go with a fearless heart!

As for the sales tax stuff, my daughter took a class at our local commutity collage to learn all that stuff. She said the class was terrific,so when you start out that you do it correctly.
Your work is wonderful, you remind me of my daughters. I have been following you since you appeared on Scrapbook Memories.
