I spent National Scrapbooking Day scrapbooking!  Yay!  I decided to play along with the nineteen challenges over at Studio Calico using my Joyland kit!  Here's what I came up with:

Davinie challenged us to make a card that had (1) woodgrain, (2) the color blue, (3) used a punch.  Susan challenged us to use a SC stamp on a card.  I combined the two challenges and here's what I came up with:

ThankYouCard-key Here are a few close ups:

Cards are enormously difficult for me.  So I was delighted to simply get through the making of one!

Next up, Emily challenged us to use something from Flickr or Tumblr as inspiration.  I've had this image in my faves forever:

It's by a woman named Anna Denise.

In addtion, Kelly challenged us to use the following 5 things: (1) polka dots, (2) brads, (3) any SC stamp, (4) mist, (5) at least 4 different patterned papers.  Nicole H challenged us to use an old photo.  Sasha challenged us to use white space.  Joy challenged us to scrapbook our mothers.  Maggie challenged us to use some mist.  And Laura challenged us to use an SC stamp on a layout.  I combined those seven challenges into this layout:

Here are the details:

I took a journaling stamp and stamped it twice (turning the stamp ninety degrees) to create the grid marks.

SCStamp-twice (My StazOn ink pad is running out of ink.  I need to buy a reinker!)  The top image is the journaling stamp and the bottom image is once I turned the stamp ninety degrees and stamped a second time.

I hand cut the circles and popped some of them up with foam adhesive in order to create a bit of dimension.

Next up, Jenn challenged us to create a layout inspired by this sketch:

Lisa challenged us to scrap a photo from our phones.  And Maggie challenged us to use some mist.  I combined the three challenges to create this layout:

DailyCommute-sm
I'm not sure how I feel about the ripped edge with the layers of patterned paper.  It was a better idea in my head than how it finally turned out.  I think maybe the curve of the tear should go the other way?

I loooooooooooove those Prima sequin centers.  They make everything look wonderful!

Next up, Waleska challenged us to create a layout inspired by this advertisement:

Joy challenged us to scrap our mothers.  Celine challenged us to use some digital elements on a paper layout (go hybrid).  And Steph H challenged us to scrap the opposite way we normally do.  Combining those four challenges, I came up with this layout:

She'sTheGlue-sm
She'sTheGlue-key
Here are the details:

She'sTheGlueDetail1-sm
(Cutting hexagons is surprisingly difficult, by the way.)  The top and bottom hexagons are both digital paper that I printed out.

She'sTheGlueDetail2-sm
I hand cut the title.  Other than that, I think it's pretty opposite from how I normally scrap.  I was really careful and measured lots of stuff and didn't do any painting or making a mess.

Next up, Nicole S issued a punch challenge: (1) punch a photo, (2) punch a paper, (3) punch a product.  Tina challenged us to "scrap your [message board] avatar."  Maggie challenged us to use mist.  Celine challenged us to create a hybrid layout.  April challenged us to use a negative on our layout.  And Stephanie W challenged us to "scraplift" ourselves — pick a favorite layout of our own and recreate it.  This is the layout of mine I chose to lift:

Home-sm
And combining all six of those challenges I came up with this layout:

Iammilkcan-sm
Iammilkcan-key
Here are some details:

That "Photo Record" card is a digital element I printed out and then colored with mist.

IammilkcanDetail3-sm
In the photo above I used a circle punch 3 times: (1) to punch the paper the milkcan avatar is printed on, (2) to punch the photo and surrounding paper, leaving a negative for the punched circle to fit into, (3) to punch a rub-on to create the intensely patterned grey circles you see on top of the green circles.  The original rub-on is below:

Punched-rubon
And finally, I crawled across the finish line (all 19 challenges done at least once – can you tell that I was *tired*?) with the following challenges: Kimmi challenged us to use at least 3 different elements to create a layered flower on a layout.  Lisa challenged us to scrap a photo from our phone.  Here's my layout:

I had a good time making lots of different flowers:

I mixed two colors of paint for that lovely effect you see in the background.

Thanks for stopping by!

  • WOW…you had a busy NSD Julie! I love the card and “daily commute” in particular but they are all wonderfully creative. How fun that you combined challenges to boot. I never thought of punching a rub-on…have to try it now.
