Prima and Couture Cardstock have paired up today.
Here's what I made:
I hand cut the leaves. Here's a process photo…
…and a view from the side (I popped up the leaves with foam adhesive).
I also hand cut the title. And here you can see the stitching up close:
I'm trying to take more process photos because I like blogging about the process of creating. I took this photo after I had laid everything out and before I glued anything down:
And then this scan from after I glued it all down:
Doesn't it just feel "off" some how? I like the one before the adhesive so much better! Well, I looked and looked at the layout and then decided that the large face was throwing off the balance of the layout. If you look at the "before" photo, it's over on the left. So I moved it:
Better, right? The layout is meant to be weighted to the left so that the stitched leaves counterbalance it. There are still a few other little things that make that "original" better (the photos are more staggered, the letters more haphazard, etc.), but alas a girl can only unglue so many things! I'm always struck by how it's the little details that make a big difference!
Here's my second layout:
It has a spring-y feel to it, don't you think? A couple of days ago I had an idea for a layout and I grabbed a scrap of paper and started sketching.
The sketch on the right was my original idea. I was thinking about a grid style layout with little "containers" for disparate pieces. My brain traveled and I came up with the sketch on the left. It's still little containers, just cut into tag shapes. I think it's pretty easy to see that that sketch was the inspiration for this layout. I don't always sketch, but I enjoy doing it. As artsy fartsy as my layouts are, I am hyper aware of design principles at all times.
Here are some layout details:
I hand cut the title and layered it over some stitched paper ruffles.
The tags are also hand cut. I stitched bits of paper onto them (leaving the strings on), added some paint and then my photos and journaling.
Thanks for stopping by!

GORGEOUS layouts! I especially love the one with the different tags and the strips of journaling in typewriter font. Delish!!!

I especially like how you popped the leaves up with foam adhesive. Your use of flowers always gives me new inspiration. Funny how changing the large/face pic was balanced by the stitching. Nice LO’s.
