Ranger’s Melt Art Designer Showcase

I started this post back at the beginning of December.  Now that CHA has come and gone, I can finally post it!  I've got a few more "random" posts coming at  you this week and then a big CHA wrap up!

I just about fell off my chair when I got an email inviting me to participate in the Ranger Designer Showcase.  Of course I said, yes!  A month later, I received a big lovely box full of products from Ranger's Melt Art line.  Here are the instructions I received:

You will be provided with products from our Melt Art line, one
ticket-shaped wooden piece and one 10×10 base board to create your project
based on the theme "Melt Art is the Hottest Ticket."  You can
choose to layer or overhang the two pieces, but please make sure the overall
finished dimensions do not exceed 12×12.  Additionally, both pieces must
be incorporated in your finished project.

You do not have to use all of the Melt Art products in the line that
we've sent you on your piece.  Just please keep in mind this is a Melt Art
challenge, so we want to make sure your finished piece represents Melt
Art.

And here's what I made:

Makeart-sm
I made UTEE tiles and created the central mosaic piece by piece.  It's hard to see in the photo, but that mosaic is made up of hundreds of tiny pieces.  And I'm thrilled and tickled with how the faux lampworked beads turned out.  I was doing some general experimenting and stumbled upon this fabulous technique sort of by accident.  I plan to make a lot more of these!  Here are some details:

So much better in person.  I wish I were a better photographer at moments like this.

Here's what all of the pieces looked like all together at the show:

Meltart-all
It was very, very cool to see how many different things could be made with UTEE (to accommodate so many different styles too)!  Of course now I want instructions from everyone!   Don't you?

I'm hoping to put together a bit of jewelry using my faux lampworked beads.  I am envisioning some super cool earrings and necklaces!  Now I just need to find a patch of free time….

Thanks for stopping by!

PS: A bit of good news via e-mail today – had a layout picked up by Creating Keepsakes for their July/August edition.  I am thrilled!

  • I love that piece. It is awesome. I also loved the project you did in the Prima booth. The one you “framed” the photo with the masking tape. I loved that look and the use of the tape was very creative.
