Here's a big pile of randomness for you:

1. GOT MY MOO CARDS!

I ordered some business cards from Moo.com.  They let you put your artwork on the back (and front) of the cards.  You can enter up to 50 designs.  I did about a third of that.  They arrived in the mail on Monday and I cannot wait to start handing them out!

2. NIB PEN FOLLOW UP

First up, here's a photo of the sexy beast:

NibPen
And to answer some of the other questions that were left in the comments:

  • This is the Black Cat ink that I'm in love with.  (I should have bought this too because my nib is filthy!)
  • Here is a wiki article about nib pens.  Also known as a dip pen.
  • If you use one of the smaller tips, it's amazing how long it will write before you have to re-dip!

3. I'VE GOT A GIVEAWAY

This is the story of a slippery slope.  My studio was overrun with stuff.  I started to get hysterical.  But then I calmed myself down and decided to buy some more storage.  This of course led to organizing.  Sort of.  Mostly it led to emptying some things and moving the stuff to new places.  Long story short, I've got a big box of stuff…

Giveaway-January
…that needs a new home.  And since I'm too lazy to mail it, if you live in the New York City area and want to come and pick it up from me in the next day or two, it's yours.  Just send me an e-mail (the link is on the left side of the blog) and you can walk away (take a cab, it's heavy) with it.  First come, first served.

4. I'M TAKING A CLASS

I've signed up to take a Portrait Drawing class at the Educational Alliance.  (They have some great looking classes!  The sculpture classes have me salivating.  And I'm tempted by some of the painting.  But we'll see how this one goes.)  Not only am I super excited about the class, but I *have* to go to the art store and buy supplies.  I love that.  I will be sure to share what I create and talk about the class a bit.  It starts next week and I'm already getting all fluttery and happy!

5. I MADE SOMETHING I LOVE

I'm so excited to share this project!  Ever make something that you just love?  This is one of mine.  I see
all the mistakes, but I just don't care!  I love it from conception to
realization.  (And now that I've said all that, I really hope that you
do too!  *nervous*)  It's called "Secrets in My Hair."

I made it for the Prima booth at CHA.  Some lovely new Prima flowers.  It's the biggest painting I've done so far.  I definitely want to do some more.  Here's the little sketch I drew when I was imagining the canvas in contrast with the final product:

I think the next incarnation will have painted words (as in the sketch) as opposed to the little journaling strips.  But we shall see…!

Thanks for stopping by!

  • You definitely rock the painted word style so you know you can’t go wrong with that. I like this version as well though. The little strips of paper look like other strands of hair (with more definition) It’s like she’s got highlights!

  • Oh, your painting is WONDERFUL! I so wish I could see it in person! It brings to mind how I like having longer hair so that I can ‘hide’ behind it. Oh, and your nib pen is curvier than my nip pens … beautiful!
