2009 was a terrible year. I don't think I'm the only one who is super glad to say goodbye and turn the page. I feel like everything I read is about how terrible 2009 was. In fact, a friend e-mailed me this the other day:
So looking forward to 2010, I have decided to take some control of my destiny and play along with Ali Edwards' "One Little Word." My word for 2010 is TRUE. Here's a layout I did about it:
It's based on this Pencil Lines sketch by Susan Dupre:
I was shocked at how quickly this page came together. I made my little drawings morphing the sketch, grabbed some Sassafras and boom! It just sort of came together. I'm becoming a big fan of letting busy patterned paper do its thing. Normally, I start with a piece of cardstock and then adhere things to it. But in the case of this layout, I started with patterned paper and adhered cardstock to it. I think it's a fun choice (plus there's an obvious place to put your journaling)!
One of my creative goals for 2010 is to worry less about fitting in. It's something that I struggle with constantly because I want my projects to be "marketable." I like being on design teams and getting published and being on TV and all that jazz. But I also want to be true to myself. I'm sure it doesn't seem like it to anyone else, but there are a few touches on this layout that are me trying to get braver about just doing "my thing" and not worrying so much. Baby steps.

Awesome page. STaying true in this business is hell 😉 – at least when you have a different style- you will make it. My words are Composed Focus – I had to combine them- LOL- it comes from the experiences of trying to stay true to myself 😉

ok . . . so i haven’t been following you for all that long . . . but the one thing i can definitely say is that i don’t see your layouts as ever fitting in . . . and i mean that in an awesome way!!! you have guts . . . you have an awesome style . . . i love the art side . . . but it something i could never do!! your layouts always stand out and are so bright and fun! I LOVE IT!!! my word for this year is serenity . . . here’s to success for both of us!

Ahh love that e-card – totally agree (all wasn´t bad though, but..). So loved your take on the PL sketch – so fun and energetic! 🙂 (and I dont think I mentioned this earlier but loved your layout for prima w/the blue circleish paint as background – sort of simple to be you yet so you – lovely touch! 🙂 ) Have to play more w/paint – but how do you deal w/the warping of the paper..thats what stops me from going wild w/paint and spray, hate to try straighten out the paper before using it further :p (sure, nice texture, but sometimes (often) it´s too much for my taste)

The rays of sunlight radiating out from your photos like an inner glow setting the world alight with creativity, your own words and thoughts at the center, and the butterflies emerging from the cocoon. I know that might not be what you see, but when I looked at it, it immediately hit me as such and the colors are so soothing and motivating.
You keep being inspirational and unique. It’s part of what makes you so beautiful, so just let it go and be free. I just know everyone will love what they see. 🙂
