Guest Designer at The Creative Type

I'm the guest designer this week over at The Creative Type!  It's my first time guesting for a challenge blog and it was super fun!  The challenge was to embellish your chipboard letters.  I had grand plans to do wild experiments with glitter and stamps and all sorts of cool stuff, but when I started working on the layout, that all seemed a little excessive.  Here's the layout I turned in:

HeART-sm

  • I dug into my stash of miscellaneous chipboard letters (and boy, I haven't been through those drawers in FOREVER, but more on that later…) and mixed and matched them.  Here's a quick pic of the drawers:

Chipboard-inDrawers

  • I adhered them to my cardstock with gel medium (I knew I was going to get painty and I didn't want any adhesive issues).
  • I covered them with a layer of gesso (to get rid of the random colors and patterns that a few of them were sporting and to seal the "naked" ones so the paint would sit on the surface nicely).
  • I started building up layers and layers of ink, paint, spray dye, doodling, etc.  And I did my best to integrate the photo into all of this.
  • The "main" chipboard is outlined with some glitter and then has a ton of color (Distress Ink and watercolors mostly) in the center.

Doing this challenge made me realize that I never use my chipboard any more.  Most of the time, I just paint a title these days.  So, I'm having a little give away.  I dumped out my twenty-six drawers full of chipboard letters, metal letters, and some ghost letters too.  I've got Fancy Pants, Scenic Route, Making Memories, Maya Road, Heidi Swapp…and on and on.  We're talking about a stash that's been building up for five years!  Check out the mountain of letters I've got:

Chipboard-SideView

If you'd like to win a HUGE box full of these fabulous letters, just leave a comment on this post letting me know what scrapbooking or papercrafting technique you'd like to learn!  I will pull a random winner on Sunday (June 7 at midnight EST).  Here's a quick view from above (I put a pencil on the top so you could see just how ENORMOUS this pile is):

Thanks for stopping by!

PS: By total happenstance, I opened my copy of this month's Creating Keepsakes Magazine and there's an article on page 45 called, "Chipboard Letter Makeovers."  How fun!

I especially love your reminder to use gel medium instead of another adhesive to avoid paint issues. Always look forward to your posts. Of course I would love a stack of chipboard letters!!
