The Urban Inspirations Quilt Show 2009

I have to tell you, they're doing construction on my building and I think the jack hammering for hours every single day might truly make me insane.  So if you notice me pulling my hair out, that's why.

This past weekend, the Empire Quilters (Manhattan's Quilting Guild) held the Urban Inspirations Quilt Show.  I had a lot less time at the show than I would have liked, but this was a spectacularly busy weekend.  Nonetheless, I took a bunch of iphone photos of some of the awesomely cool quilts that were on display.  Sorry about the blurriness of the photos, but the lighting was kind of terrible and the show was packed, so I had to snap quickly.

The quilt below won a blue ribbon at Paducah (which is like the SuperBowl of quilt shows).  So, it was no surprise to see it win "Best Pictoral" and a couple of other ribbons at this show.

I loved this pictoral quilt and was so surprised that it didn't win anything!

Check out the cool idea of using pearls as soap bubbles in the child's hair!

This quilt was so striking!

This was a massive quilt.  The artist (pictured with her quilt below) said it took her three years to complete the quilt.  It was one of those quilts that you could stand and read forever.

This quilt was the "President's Challenge" winner.  The quilts all had to be under 24" square and be inspired by a crayon color.

Here's another quilt that I felt should have won something.  These cats and flowers were stunning!

Here's a detail photo.  I can't imagine having the patience for that!

My husband loved all these yo-yos.  This was an enormous quilt made from hundreds and hundreds of yo-yos.  Here's a great tutorial on making yo-yos.

This quilt won the "Best Traditional" prize.  Check out that gorgeous quilting!  Amazing!

The first place ribbons were these hand made, hand beaded beauties!

This was definitely the smallest quilt at the show!

This was, hands down, my favorite quilt in the show.  So, it's super sad that I didn't get a good photo of it.  It just glowed in person.  It was breathtaking!
