First of all, thank you so much to everyone who said such lovely things about my new line of paper with Sultane. Thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!! (I am seriously blushing.) It was so interesting to hear about everyone's favorites. Not at all what I expected and I love that! Now, to answer two questions:
Q: When will the line be available to the public (esp non french reading LOL)?
A: As far as I know (and unfortunately I don't speak French either), it's not being sold anywhere but France right now, but Portrait Bug (here, in NYC) is going to carry it and they do internet orders. I'll be sure to post once the paper arrives at Portrait Bug. A lot of people had this question and I'm sorry it's not a better answer. But, thank you for your support. I can't tell you how much it means to me!
Q: I am so
excited for you and would also love to learn about the whole process
sometime if you would be willing to share of how you created your
designs and in what format you had to send them in for manufacturing,
that really intriques me…
A: Sure! I don't have a lot of knowledge about this stuff, and because I don't speak French, we all just kind of figured it out as we went. I used a mixture of Photoshop and Illustrator to create the papers. And truth be told, I used the free 30-day download of Illustrator (I wish I could buy it. Because it is awesome). In those 30 days, I had to teach myself Illustrator, design the papers, and then re-do a few of them based on some requests from Sultane. Whew. Everything on the papers is hand drawn (I use a pen tablet). And Illustrator makes it easy to create "repeats" of a hand drawn doodles, and thus patterns are born. The owners of Sultane asked me to send the design files as .psds, which I did. As I mentioned, there was a little back and forth on a few of the papers and then a few months later, a big box arrived on my doorstep! I didn't know they were out in the world until I got the box!

Now, the coolest part about working with this paper was how quickly my layouts seemed to come together! I am not kidding you when I say I probably spent less than twenty minutes on this layout. Twenty minutes!!! I never do anything in twenty minutes. Most layouts take me at least two hours, and often much longer! But because the papers are already painted and distressed and inked, it just made everything fall into place so very quickly! However, I will say that the journaling on this one is kind of stupid. I grabbed an old photo that hadn't made it on to a layout and just started writing sort of stream-of-consciousness. But, it's still fun, right?
And this layout was super fun to create as well, though a little more involved.
Just layers and layers of patterned paper, all stitched together! I love the way the line goes together so well, if I do say so myself! *grin*
Oh, I wanted to mention this odd reaction I kept getting when I took the paper to a crop on Friday night. More than one person said, "Oh, it's a lot nicer in person." Hmmmm…I think I'm flattered?
