Just finished my project for the first week of Project Fifty-Two. (There's some fun stuff from other folks appearing in the flickr pool too.) This is an 8.5×11" quilt entitled "The Plan for 2009." I had some issues photographing it, so there's a weird line through the middle of it. Sorry!
I have been wanting to experiment with "windows" or "transparent pockets" for a while, so I was excited to sit down and play. I'm not sure if you can tell from the photos, but each of the white spaces is actually a transparent window holding little treasures. The quilt is muslin over-dyed with Adirondack Spray Washes. To finish the edges, instead of a traditional binding, I used a Beryl Taylor trick, gluing the edges shut and then using a paint pen to complete the look. For a quilt that's never going into the wash, it's a nice tailored look. Here's a detail shot:
I used my trusty Sakura Pigma Micron to do all the writing. I love that it doesn't bleed on fabric and that it's permanent!
Thanks for stopping by!
ETA: People have e-mailed me asking about the text. Each of the "windows" has a word stamped on it. For example, "eyes." In that section, I wrote mandates to myself that have to do with my eyes, such as, "Get better lighting for your studio," or "Pay attention to the world out there!" Hope that helps!

this is cool! Are you going to hang it?
